Vasaloppet. In memory of Gustav Vasa that before he became King went on a cross country ski tour to drum up support to rebel against the Danes taking over the Swedish throne (See also Stockholm Bloodbath - when the Danes decided to take over the throne by inviting all the important names in Sweden to a party and then ended up slaughtering them). Last year it took 83 seconds to fill all the 33k slots for this annual marathon/skiithon - this year it took 4 minutes. They also have a second one - when you do the whole trip in darkness. The hardcore version for people who has nothing better to do than to than to ski 90km in the middle of the night. www.vasaloppet.se/en/about-us/our-history/One reason I love history. Swedish history is really interesting, especially the stuff that comes after the Viking era. It is amazing that Sweden had an empire at one point considering how small the population is. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the greatest military minds in history and his daughter Christina was a one woman soap opera.

That was my first thought. I'd be rude to say that the grammar in his first post gave it away, but it did. Well, his email certainly gives it away.

So I checked out the grotesque new Facebook MRR. Any bets on how quickly Colliebot will drop it considering he'll be drowning in trolls? I'm waiting for collie to engage the zombies posting about where to find Batman vs Superman online... I used my "real" FB handle to post how positively awful it is. I saw MS's Friday rationale but AFAIC I don't see how that mess can possibly survive. And yeh, I'm definitely not interested in bootlegging B vs S.

a/k/a Oreo. Soft creamy middle. I just disgusted myself. Don't say you want to lick it between the halves? Not likely.

Looking at Zeke's e-mail page - Three of four top paragraphs are about Trump, third paragraph gets to Obama Cuba visit, then Must Reads - three of four are Trump, then Sound Off quotes - two of two are Trump, then Bits and Bites - 11 were Trump, four were not. Gee, media enabling him much? Hope your day is going well, O queen.

Altho Viking wise Swedish Vikings were more into exploring the rivers in Russia - Norway and Denmark was more into looting Europe.

I really didn't want to leave since I think (maybe self-gratifyingly) we were an asset to TIME. But their "solution" caused an even bigger problem. No one's posting over there now. There's no way I am gonna voice my opinions about things when my personal info gets exposed. Can you imagine Sue using her real handle to skewer the church when there could be possible retribution?

Facebook is a terrible way to socialize, unless you want people to hear your inner voice and whimpering pleas.

Saw Allegiant over the weekend. I was concerned because it was my least favorite book of the trilogy but they basically abandoned the book and took it in a much better direction. Not unlike The Scorch Trials from the Maze Runner series.

At one time, Sweden was the main supplier of mercenary troops to countries like France during the Early Modern period. Swedish troops were renowned for the military professionalism and superior training. Cardinal Richelieu and King Louis XIII were regularly in hot water with the pope because they stubbornly insisted on allying with Protestant Sweden against Catholic countries like Spain, but France wanted those Swedish soldiers.

What can I say. We liked to kill things. That pretty much changed after Russia spanked us and we lost Finland. We tried to keep the union with Norway intact but after their fuzz we sorta just went 'Meh, wars sucks'. And that was it.

Frozen countries routinely box above their weight class, but there are still limits to how tough the snow can make us. Or how we do against bigger frozen countries.
