Hmm.... how does the confidence vote work in the House? Do you need a majority of votes in favor to retain confidence? Or do you need a plurality? If the Democrats vote Present, does McCarthy survive Gaetz? And then Gaetz doesn't even have the stepping stone of "Dems kept him alive".

Simple majority suggests that the "present" vote idea works as it should be a majority of votes cast (Present doesn't count) rather than of all voters.... Oh, this would be fucking glorious. Ok, they might need to chip in on the explusion vote but between voting "I want Jackass to cease being a member of Congress" and voting "I think McCarthy is doing just fine as Speaker".... |
