Aren't we getting six more weeks of winter anyway, shadow or not? I'd appreciate actually getting 6 weeks of winter. Seriously, I've had snow on my grass maybe 3 weeks. It looks like fucking April

Experts predicted 180k job growth for January - we got nearly twice that amount (353,000). But yeh, his indicted, likely convicted felon of an opponent is better for America.

Experts predicted 180k job growth for January - we got nearly twice that amount (353,000). But yeh, his indicted, likely convicted felon of an opponent is better for America. So I found myself wondering: has Joe Biden had a bad jobs report? And I found the Bureau of Labor Statistics page. And the answer is: "no". Joe Biden's worst jobs report was December 2022 when only 136K jobs were added. Let's talk about the last guy. Now, I'm going to just exclude all of 2020. It is not close to an apples-to-apples comparison to discuss Trump's numbers in March and April of 2020 and it is no more fair to give him the massive rebound in May-Sep - every single one of those months is just pure chaos with a scale greater than the worst months during the Great Recession. This does mean that I'm wiping out Dec 2020 when 243K jobs were lost in Trump's last full month which is probably less reasonable to include but.... using numbers from a weird fucking time is unnecessary when I can find the narrative with just the other 3 years of Trump's presidency. (Plus, it works out to 3 years vs 3 years) Aug 2017: 135K Sep 2017: 92K Jul 2018: 55K Sep 2018: 87K Nov 2018: 97K Feb 2019: 5K May 2019: 38K Jul 2019: 90K Oct 2019: 100K Dec 2019: 126K Biden's worst month is still better than 10 of Trump's first 36 months BTW: half of those 36 months are below 200K. Biden has 4 months below that threshold. data.bls.gov/timeseries/ces0000000001?output_view=net_1mth

Dang, RIP

NHL: the 4 players under contract will be paid the balance of their salaries for the season www.cbc.ca/news/politics/nhl-press-conference-sexual-assault-charges-1.7103104All 4 have expiring contracts and contract termination requires a degree of proof that's difficult to demonstrate so it's not worth it in the NHL's eyes to have that legal battle I should note: the NHL teams who signed these players almost certainly knew in advance that the players were the accused. In fact, one way to read the timeline was that the New Jersey Devils figured out after Carter Hart got a mysterious leave that the shoe was dropping and asked pointed questions to the players in their own organization resulting in their departure the following day. This means that no new information of personal misconduct came out and it would be a fairly gross violation of employment law to fire them when you clearly indicated that you were fine with employing them when you already knew the information that is currently public. I mean, you can fire them but they are owed the balance of their contract anyways. I believe it does change if you get convicted but charged is not a grounds for dismissal.

A line I wrote earlier today:
There's a reason why there's a distinction between how the US treated Barton Gellman and Julian Assange.

The new plot of rotational speeds of stars challenges our calculations for the amount of dark matter in the Milky Way scitechdaily.com/galactic-surprise-milky-ways-slower-outer-stars-suggest-dark-matter-overestimated/Here's the thing not mentioned: since JWST started publishing data, there's been a bit of a panic in astronomy as it keeps finding galaxies that exist before our models think there's enough dark matter to support them. What if our models are just wrong on how much dark matter is needed?

Fullmoon again.
People are calling in pissed off that their internet sucks. Someone actually said that since they live in bumfuck nowhere and depend on the internet there should be an oncall tech for the weekends that can come out and serve them.
That's right, pay a tech weekend rate to standby to go out and serve people who want to live in nowhere.
