One fascinating alternate history question: what if Halsey hadn't gotten sick prior to Midway?
Halsey got some tropical disease and had to stand down in the lead up to Midway and Admiral Spruance led American forces at Midway. Spruance is remembered as a cautious Admiral, Halsey is remembered as an extremely aggressive Admiral. There's no reason to assume that the events of the first day would be any different and all 4 Japanese Carriers would be sunk and Yorktown beaten and presumed doomed (it would need to be sunk again a few days later but let's not linger on that)
The evening of the first day, though, is where the question lies. See, Yamamoto thought he might be able to salvage a draw if he could use his Battleships to attack the Carriers. Spruance was nervous about the Battleships and withdrew East as the sun set. Halsey almost certainly would not have. I don't think he would've been reckless enough to move his Carriers forward, but would it be possible that in the darkness, the Japanese might have found Enterprise and Hornet? It's unlikely for a lot of reasons - the biggest being it's a big fucking ocean and you can't see very far in broad daylight let alone at night with zero air recon and Americans might have had decent radar options to perform far better than in Guadalcanal where the radar was disrupted somewhat by the backdrop of islands - but it's still a fascinating question and raises some interesting thoughts about the progression of the war.

Now they say they 'parted ways' but make no mistake. Owens wanted to get her licks in for a while now and now she's finally kicked to the curb. And she'll probably go the way of other figures on the right - start a podcast or whatever and scrape by in the thunderdome against other hasbeens. But she won't have that steady paycheck from the Daily Wires 1 million moronic subscribers.
And she's a black woman...so...good bye.

It's never going to happen but:
(Comparatively) Sane Republicans split from Freedom Caucus. Reach deal with Jeffries to form coalition government with provisions to ensure that they can call a confidence vote if he starts doing things they don't like (maybe if a majority of their sub-caucus support a motion to vacate). Some rules for how committee assignments work. Jeffries for Speaker with a strong coalition government. Democrats emphatically say "look who can actually fucking govern, shit heads". Pass Border Deal + Aid package. And see if they can sneak in a declaration that 1/6 was an insurrection pursuant to 14S3.
I know, I'm dreaming, but still...

While the Royal family has a complex relationship with a right to privacy, I believe this is one of the more blatant examples of how toxic this media obsession is. Battles with Cancer deserve to be private. Charles, as the reigning King, has some responsibility but Kate is removed from the line of succession. Look at how unbelievably callous and complex the search was for any information and the rumors that ended up running around. It is a fucking disease. They said it was a medical issue. The only issue was that her stay was a little longer than you would normally have. |

My understanding is that the amendment bans the flying of all flags except the US flag. Republicans are making a big deal over the rainbow flag to demonstrate their ‘win’ over woke ideology. It does not prohibit embassy staff’s personal flags though. |
