Donald J. Trump in 2000: How I’ll Be the First Celebrity President In an eerily prescient interview in 2000, Donald Trump predicted his own political rise and laid out his plan to hack the media. It was 2000 when Donald J. Trump first made noise about running for president, and when Bob Guccione Jr. asked the developer, not yet a reality TV star, to write for Gear about what a Trump candidacy, and potential presidency, would offer Americans. Here’s The Donald, in his own words—plus a quote from Thoreau?!—applauding the “celebrity culture in which athletes, movie stars and businessmen are considered for public office,” ripping “the hypocrites (who) argue that a man who loves and appreciates beautiful women… shouldn’t become a national leader” and trashing “the whinnying culture critics and media hacks (who) bemoan the rise of celebrity culture and warn about the decline of traditional political values.” He concluded: “As a true conservative, I believe that a citizen politician, with the support of other private citizens, is smart enough and gifted enough to lead this great country and give it new spirit. If things go well, I’ll have a chance to demonstrate that fact.” The full interview: www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/05/05/donald-j-trump-in-2000-how-i-ll-be-the-first-celebrity-president.html

So, i've been trying to form some thoughts on what i read on yesterday's post. A few things seem to irritate me, so i'm going to say what they are. For some reason lately, Steve has decided to be contrarian in just about every post (though sometimes they are silly, irreverent things in those posts as well). I know some people are getting tired of the whole "denial of reality" antics, as well as the seemingly ridiculous idea that "if you can't prove it to me, to MY satisfaction, then i am not going to believe you" inference in those same messages.
I"m curious as to why, if it annoys you, you don't just ignore it. Let him bark at the moon. I mean i post about star wars (which is noble, btw) - and that has nothing to do with politics. It is a free forum.
If you take appart his argument, and he denies the reality of that fact, let it go. All you can do (to anyone) is present facts. If those facts are ignored, the fact doesn't change. It just means someone makes a choice to remain ignorant.
Conversely, i'm pretty sick and tired of seeing Steve threaten to leave, or create the straw man argument that we want him to leave; The only person, that i've seen on this board actually say Steve should leave, is Steve.
I haven't seen anyone else say it. So unless he's getting flooded with private messages suggesting he should leave, it's nothing but attention whoring. And i find that offensive, because it calls into question the integrity of everyone else who posts here; by implying if you don't agree with us, we don't want you here. Or actually stating that we don't want someone there, thus falsely accusing us of paranoid arguments that are going on in his own mind.
I'm not going to say i want anyone here anymore; i've said it repeatedly, and i don't like to repeat myself. Categorically, one last time - i'd like EVERYONE to post here. And post whatever you want.
But that does not mean that everyone has to agree. And if you post something that makes no sense to anyone else, it doesn't mean people don't have senses of humor.
It means you're inarticulate.

Calm Down! Democrats Are Going To Stomp Trump Into The Ground May 4, 2016 12:48 pm · After Tuesday’s semi-coronation of Donald Trump as the Republican nominee, a lot of people, both liberal and conservative, took to social media to hyperventilate over the impending disaster of Trump winning the 2016 election. RELAX! Donald Trump is never going to be President of the United States. Ever. Hillary Clinton is going to be the Democratic nominee and she’s going to mop the floor with him. Here are a few facts to consider: Trump is a f*cking idiot – On pretty much EVERY occasion Trump has tried to sound smart, he’s embarrassed himself. From his claims about a big beautiful wall, to his “plan” to defeat ISIL, to his repeated insults of women, blacks, Latinos, the handicapped, etc., to his laughably bad economic and foreign policy pronouncements, “The Don” has made it very clear to even the most casual observer that he has no idea what he’s talking about. Trump is historically unpopular – According to Real Clear Politics, Trump’s average unfavorable rating is -65.4%. That’s 2/3 of the country, including Republicans, that intensely dislike Trump. Trump is even MORE unpopular among women, Latinos and blacks – 70% of women intensely dislike him. 77% of Latinos intensely dislike him. 86% of blacks intensely dislike him. No one wins without the support of those three groups and there is literally no way Trump will suddenly be able to appeal to them. The Republican Party and its donors have already abandoned the White House and are trying to save as many down-ticket seats as they can. Even the 1% owners of the GOP think Trump would be a disaster. This doesn’t mean they’ll support Clinton – but it does mean they’ll work against Trump. Trump’s rallies are going to get uglier and more violent and it’s all going to be on camera. Want to get people to the polls? Show them what kind of America Trump is already building. Trump can’t help himself. His attacks on Hillary are going to be so ugly and so nasty that it’s going to hurt him. This tactic worked well in the primary because he was appealing to the very worst that America has to offer. But in the general? Not a chance. America does not respond well to sexism and racism on the national level. Trump has yet to be vetted by the media in any real way. They were too busy basking in the high ratings he was getting them for the “liberal” media to do its job. They’ll be the tempted to keep letting him run rampant for ratings but some outlets will actually act like the news instead of an infomercial and that won’t go well for Trump. Trump has been officially endorsed by the KKK. How do you think that’s going to play with the public? There’s more but you get the idea. Trump is toxic in every way imaginable. His message of hate combined with pretending to care about the middle class will not scale up to the national level. And then there’s Hillary. Despite what you may hear, Hillary is actually a strong candidate. As a former First Lady, former Senator and former Secretary of State that’s spent her entire adult life fighting for one liberal cause or another (women’s rights, universal healthcare, LGBT rights, etc.), Hillary Clinton is insanely prepared and qualified to be president. She’s also smart. Really smart. Obama smart. Run circles around Donald Trump smart. Whether you like her or not, you cannot deny that Hillary Clinton has strong grasp on the issues. She can rattle off facts and figures faster than most people can google them. She has detailed plans that she is more than happy to explain at great length if you want. Compare that to Trump’s 4th-5th grade grammar and flimsy grasp of any issue and you’re looking at a series of debates that will be humiliating for “The Don.” Something else to to consider is that while the GOP was hampered in its ability to attack Trump, the left will be under no such constraints. There are hours and hours of footage of Donald Trump saying horrible things about pretty much every group of Americans that are not white men. The ads write themselves and Trump’s hate only sells with his chunk of the GOP’s already racist base. Hillary will have an embarrassment of riches to choose from. Added bonus, she won’t even have to play dirty to do it. While Hillary is no stranger to a down and dirty political fight (something else that will serve her well as president), she can take the moral high ground and let Trump fling mud at himself. Another useful Clinton fact is that she is the single most scrutinized and vetted politician on the planet. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she’s “untrustworthy” and a “crook” but when you ask the people saying that what crime she’s committed, you get vague comments about her emails or something about taking bribes as Secretary of State. They can’t produce any evidence but, darn it! they KNOW she’s guilty of….something! But after 20+ years of Republicans spending an unlimited amount of resources, manpower and time into digging up dirt on her, Hillary has yet to have a scandal stick. The “liberal” media has been trying to claim her scalp for just as long and have failed miserably. These are the people that uncovered some of the deepest, darkest secrets of the United States government but the best they could come up with on Clinton was rumors and innuendo. I don’t know about you, but that suggests that maybe, just maybe, there’s no real scandal to dig up. And let’s be honest, the right has tried so hard, for so long, to pin something, ANYTHING, on her that the public has been inured to it by now. They overplayed their Benghazi hand so badly that it stopped being a campaign issue right when they needed it the most. The same thing will happen for all of their new “scandals.” They’ll rush them out, the “liberal” media will breathlessly report them as total fact and then the “scandal” will crumble. Rinse, repeat. It didn’t work on Obama and the public isn’t biting anymore. And finally, this is what the electoral map looks like right now according to statistics genius Nate Silver: And it’s only going to get bluer the more both Clinton and Trump speak. This doesn’t mean we should get complacent. Quite the opposite, in fact! We have an unparalleled opportunity to take back the House, the Senate and several state governments. Trump will both energize the blue vote and seriously suppress the red vote and we should be swarming the polls to take back the country from the Tea Party idiots that made Trump the nominee in the first place. Stay calm and vote blue! www.addictinginfo.org/2016/05/04/calm-down-democrats-are-going-to-stomp-trump-into-the-ground/

Fox News Shuts Down Comments On Malia Obama Post When They Realize How Racist Their Readers Are (VIDEO) May 2nd, 2016 Carissa House-Dunphy Racism, Television 0 comments Share Facebook Twitter Yesterday, Fox News reported that President Obama’s daughter, Malia, had elected to attend Harvard University after taking a year off from school. It seemed an innocuous enough story, but readers of Fox News proved nothing is off-limits when attacking a black president, his wife, and his children. Fox News was forced to close the comment section when their readers began displaying their horrific racism for all the world to see. Addicting Info, however, caught screenshots. None of these people commenting seemed to consider that a black child, who fluently speaks a foreign language, may just be intelligent enough to qualify for admission to the prestigious university. Also, none of them note that white students who are considered part of a “legacy” because their family members attended Ivy League schools are more likely to be accepted than first-generation students, regardless of grades or test scores, and have been for years. These racists commenting that Malia’s acceptance into Harvard has to be based on her race also fail to consider that her mother holds two Ivy League degrees from Harvard and Princeton. Perhaps Malia inherited those brains from her mother? No, these racists can’t accept that Michelle Obama is a brilliant and accomplished woman. They can’t even accept that she’s a woman! Harvard is one university that does proportionately admit students of color. African Americans comprise 12.1% of the United States population and 11.6% of Harvard University admissions. Black applicants are not, therefore, admitted at a higher rate than white students. They’re simply admitted proportionately. That’s not “black privilege,” it’s called equality. Insisting that any accomplishment made by a person of color, an immigrant, or a female must be based solely on their race or gender is, at its core, a racist and sexist assumption. White males are not inherently more capable or intelligent as a group. No one is “taking” their opportunities away, as those opportunities should never have belonged solely to white males. Shutting down the comments on this story doesn’t erase the racism behind the comments. It still exists and has been fostered and encouraged by the likes of Fox News. Manufactured rage over the “race card” is part of their daily schedule. For just one small example of this, see the video below: bipartisanreport.com/2016/05/02/fox-news-shuts-down-comments-on-malia-obama-post-when-they-realize-how-racist-their-readers-are-video/

Winds shifted at Fort McMurray fire and drove the fire south towards one of the evacuation centers. It and 3 towns were evacuated successfully overnight. Winds are expected to be as high as 50km/hr (30mph) this afternoon though lower temperatures and higher humidity will help. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/more-evacuation-orders-issued-for-fort-mcmurray-area-1.3566310There was a tweet this morning saying the oil impact is about a quarter of Canada's overall oil production - 1M b/d Also got a family update - my Uncle was at his refinery which is well south of the fire at the time of the evac order and his wife was already in New Brunswick. Apparently they've got a bit of a staffing issue and have any staff remaining running 8-on/8-off shifts since they just can't get any relief crews in. EDIT: Oh, and if you haven't seen one, watch some of the evacuation videos. They were driving on embers.

For some unknown reason, a few months ago a gigantic stick seems to have lodged itself up his butt and he's been going off on me and others - completely unprovoked - ever since. I have never suggest Steve leaves (and to my knowledge no one has), I have never sought an argument with him, and I have never gone out of my way to offend him. I don't know why he started acting this way, but here we are. I think your post sums it all up succinctly. It's a bit of performance art for attention.
I still have no problem with Steve; Steve seems to have problems with Steve.

Judge says Hillary Clinton Still May Have to Testify as to Why she Used a Private Email server when she was SOS.
"Steve, that's just hyperbole, and non-reality and a made-up news story. Why do the news networks keep repeating this Big Lie?"
Because it's still under investigation and isn't going away. When it goes away I'll stop mentioning it. But the Repubs will.

One of them will be. Either bring a better alternative or, y'know, keep silent on this issue. So no corruption in the good ole USA huh? And the !% doesn't own us all? And none of us is 2 paychecks from being kicked to the curb? And I'm the one who's supposed to be out of touch with reality. Hoo Hoo! Ha Ha! Uh, It's not funny, it's Ugly. What does that have to do with making a choice for president?

For just one small example of this, see the video below: bipartisanreport.com/2016/05/02/fox-news-shuts-down-comments-on-malia-obama-post-when-they-realize-how-racist-their-readers-are-video/Question; Will the manufactured rage been fostered and encouraged by the left this summer against Trump as well? My answer is yes, it will be on FULL display for the world to see. I may be able to answer better if you can explain to me, please a) What relevance your question has to the quote, and b) what manufactured rage you're referring to? I mean, this is a post about Fox doing the right thing - and you seem to be trying to find issue with it; but i'm not sure how your comment ties to the story. can you explain please?

I have never had a problem with Steve.
I've changed very little. An alien reality has slowly crept into the Swamp on just about every subject. Climate: My position is that Man isn't causing all the Climate problems. Fitty and I had many discussions about a Pole Shift. We both finally came to the conclusion that the tectonic plates had moved and the Sun was now in a different position than before. That was a very important event in 2012 that caused severe weather changes. Tsunami anyone? It was totally ignored by the rest of the Swamp. I could go on and on but I have other more important things to do like worry about Kellie's operation today and working in my garden etc.

Are you full of rage that Trump doesn't buy into your little transphobic bathroom fantasies?

What does that have to do with making a choice for president? Clinton and Trump are both weak and corrupt candidates. Wake up from your alien reality. And again, what does that have to do with making a choice? And you wonder why people tire of your takes....
